The Eagles played host to the Henderson Lions on Friday night in what turned out to be their closest scoring game of the season.

The Eagles hit the field ready to play and thanks to a rushing touchdown by #20 Alex Jones, put the first numbers on the scoreboard.

Despite Rusk recovering a Henderson fumble, the Lions still managed to find their way to the end zone with just four minutes left in the first quarter. A good PAT gave Henderson a one-point lead. The first quarter ended with a score of 6-7.

The second quarter started off with Henderson turning over possession on downs and the Eagles taking full advantage of control of the ball. Eagle #17 Chris Lawson ran for a 66-yard touchdown, followed by #4 Jaylon Hall completing a two-point conversion. This gave the Eagles a seven point lead, score 14-7.

With five minutes of game play left in the first half of the game, Henderson answered back with a safety, rushing touchdown and two point conversion to move three points ahead of the Eagles, a lead that Henderson would not carry into halftime.

With less than a minute left in the second quarter, Hall completed a 6-yard touchdown pass to #5 Joseph McGowan. A failed two-point conversion left the score 20-17 at the half.

Henderson entered the third quarter on a mission and dominated the field, not just with points but also in yardage, scoring a total of 21 points and covering 151-yards. Rusk ran for a 5-yard touchdown, but missed completing the two-point conversion to add six points to their score. Third quarter ended with Lions showing 38 points to the Eagles’ 26.

Rusk would lead the fourth quarter with a 4-yard rushing touchdown and a defense that would keep the Lions out of the end zone. Final game score was 32-38, Lion’s win.

The Eagles travel to Pittsburg on Friday, Oct. 4 to take on the 2-3 Pirates. Game play will begin at 7:30 p.m.
