Maidens make winning a habit

The Jacksonville Maidens once again finish first in a cross country meet. Schools competing in the LaPoyner Invitational included Neches, Martin’s Mill, Malakoff, Kemp and the host school LaPoynor.

Crossing the finish line first for the varsity Maidens was Jacksonville’s Taylor Gutirrez who completed the course in a time of 12:22. In third and fourth, respectively, were Reyna Munoz (13:07) and Lesly Munoz (13:07). Alexia Davis placed sixth (13:16), Michelle Medellin was seventh (13:26) and Aly Toledo finished in eighth position (13:30). Coming in at number 15 was Tori Snyder with a time of 14:45.

The junior varsity participated in a dual meet against LaPoynor, and not to be outdone by their varsity counterparts, completed the race with a perfect score, having runners finish in the top five spots. The team had 11 members place in the top 15.

Destiny Garcia took top honors with a time of 14:17. Citlaly Rincon secured second, 15:08. Juliza Cabrera took third, 15:21. Completing the top five were Jennifer Ramirez, fourth, 15:38, and Dalila Diaz, fifth, 15:41.

Team members Litzy Martinez (16:00) and Erika Garcia (16:18) finished in the sixth and seventh spots, respectively. Marissa Garcia took ninth position with a time of 16:43. Others among the top 15 included Nattalie Tavera, 12th, 18:04; Emily Hernandez, 14th, 19:29; and Diamond Jaramillo, 15th, 22:32.

The varsity Maidens carry a 4-0 district record.

Jacksonville will host the Indian Express Sept. 27.
