Volleyball victories - Lady Eagles, Panthers set up wins

Rusk High School Lady Eagle freshmen Volleyball team went undefeated in the Palestine Round Robin Tournament held Aug. 30.

The Lady Eagles of Rusk traveled to Chapel Hill where they defeated the Lady Bulldogs Tuesday, Sept. 3. The Lady Eagles prevailed in three games with scores of 25-7, 25-14 and 25-18.

The junior varsity team defeated the Lady Bulldogs in two, 25-22 and 5-19.

The freshman team took three games to beat the Bulldogs, but were also victorious over their Chapel Hill opponents.

On Friday, Sept. 6, the Lady Eagles traveled to Athens to take on the Lady Hornets.

The varsity team worked hard and eventually conquered Athens after five games (16-25, 25-15, 25-16, 22-15, 16-14).

The junior varsity beat the Lady Hornets, 25-22. The freshman team were victorious as well, beating Athens 25-9 and 25-19.

The junior varsity and freshman teams participated in the Athens tournament Saturday, Sept. 7, with the junior varsity winning all three of their games and the freshman winning two of the three games they played.

Rusk was set to host the Bullard Lady Panthers Tuesday, Sept. 10, and will have an open date Friday, Sept. 13.

The team will travel to Lindale next Tuesday, Sept. 17, to determine the stronger Lady Eagle team.

Lady Panthers maul Lady Pirates

Following an open date Tuesday, Sept. 3, the Bullard Lady Panthers traveled to Pine Tree Friday, Sept. 6.

Bullard defeated the Lady Pirates, 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-10).

Sara McKeethan acquired 12 kills and 10 digs during the match. Keili Richmond had 10 kills and nine digs while Sarah Lewinski posted four kills and four blocks. Haley Day earned four kills, four digs and two blocks.

Kylie McKeethan had 16 assists and six digs. Libby Eitel added 13 assists and seven digs.

The team carries an overall record of 23-5.The junior varsity also defeated Pine Tree, 25-5 and 25-15, as did the freshman team, 25-16, 25-8.

The Lady Panthers were to visit Rusk Tuesday, Sept. 10, and will travel to Henderson to take on the Lady Lions beginning at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13.
