Brook Hill falls to John Paul II

Brook Hill traveled to Plano Friday, Sept. 6, where they were downed by the John Paul II Cardinals, 42-10, in non-conference play.

In his second outing with the team, Garrett Esposito’s passing rate was 46 percent after completing 12 out of 26 attempts for 99 yards and a touchdown. He also threw one interception during the game. Esposito posted 10 rushing yards for the night, and kicked four punts for an average of 37.25 yards.

Casper Engqvist completed his one pass attempt for an eight-yard gain.

Receiver Carson Richards caught three passes for 34 yards and the single touchdown for the Guard. Jake Shaffer had six catches for another 34 yards and Seth Moss received twice for 18 yards. TyJuan Cannon had a single reception for 13 yards and Boone Evans made a catch for eight.

Defensively, Nico Flores posted 12 tackles for the night with one for a loss. Fisher Bass also had 12 tackles and two pass deflections. Lane Barter had seven tackles, one for a loss, and one sack. Jakelyn Morgan posted four tackles and two pass breakups. Philip Obaseki added three tackles, two for losses, and two sacks.

Tackles were also made by Jaylon Caldwell (6), Jake Shaffer (4, 1 for loss), John Engelhardt (3), Valdemar Henriksen (2), Isaiah Obaseki (2), Nick LaRocca (2), Seth Moss (2), who also posted two pass deflections, Axel Isaksson (1) and Gavin Welling (1).

Brook Hill will look to improve their record, now 1-1, when they face the Huntington Red Devils Friday, Sept. 13. The game will be hosted by the Guard at Herrington Stadium with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Troup tackles Carlisle, 33-23

The Troup Tigers improved their record to 1-1 following their victory over the Carlisle Indians Friday, Sept. 6.

Players of the week were announced with Max Hale and Kade Mahoney sharing the honor as defensive co-players of the week. Hale had 20 tackles for the night, including four for a loss, and one sack. Mahoney added 12 tackles, seven for losses, and a sack.

Jordan Elliott was named offensive player of the week. He completed nine of 11 passing attempts for an 81.8 percent passing rate. He rushed for 69 yards on 17 attempts, scoring two touchdowns.

Also attaining notable stats against Carlisle was Desmon Deason, who had six receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown. His longest reception of the night was for 65 yards.

Jaden Lewis had three receptions for 43 yards, for an average of 14.3 yards per carry, and a touchdown.

The Tigers will attempt to build on their success and continue to improve their record as they host the Elkhart Elks for their homecoming game Friday, Sept. 13.
