Jacksonville’s JV team proves its worth

The Jacksonville High School junior varsity hosted the Chapel Hill varsity and overwhelmed the Bulldogs varsity team, 15-1, in a meet Thursday, Aug. 22.

Those participating in boys singles events won all their matches, including Ty Killingsworth, 8-0; Alex Hesterley, 7-5; Ethan Kohler, 7-6; Miguel Loyola, 6-1; Brayden Murphy, 6-2; Ethan Mathis, 6-2.

Winning their matches in girls singles were Alena Trawick, 6-0; Camden Fontenot, 6-0; Claudia Mireles, 6-0; Laney Coffey 6-1; Sarah McCullough, 6-3; and Abby Fagg, 6-4.

The boys doubles team of Loyola and Connor Panuco defeated their opponents 8-6; while the duo of Hesterley and Kohler dropped their match, 1-8.

The team of McCullough and Trawick found victory, 8-6; and the duo of Fagg and Laurine Ugbebor blanked their opponents, 8-0.

The junior varsity team is set to host Bullard Thursday, Aug. 29.

The JHS varsity team was to host Marshall Tuesday, Aug. 27, in the first district meet of the season.

The team will travel to John Tyler Tuesday, Sept. 3.
