Bullard baseball battles for world series title

The Bullard 12U baseball team, having won the “O” Zone State Championship, traveled to Ruston, La., to participate in the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series.

Twelve teams are vying for the world series championship in a tournament that began Saturday, Aug. 3. Bullard opened their bid for the title, defeating Arkansas in a 10-0 game in which it was reportedly a no-hitter with nine strikeouts. Advancing in the winner’s bracket, the team faced Mississippi on Sunday. The Bullard boys finished the game as victors, 6-2.

Bullard faced South Carolina Monday, losing by two runs in a 5-3 finish. South Carolina’s four runs in the first inning proved difficult to overcome.

Bullard was scheduled to play Florida in an elimination round on Tuesday. Florida, who also lost to South Carolina, was sent to the loser’s bracket after a shutout, 9-0. Bullard’s match with Florida was to determine which team would advance to a loser’s bracket semi-final beginning at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Games will continue to be played through Thursday and will conclude in the championship game beginning at 7:30 to decide the 2019 Dixie World Series winners.
