There is currently an opportunity for the public to help take a stand against domestic violence and child abuse within local communities.

Jacksonville Police Chief Andrew Hawkes invites the public to participate in the second annual Scramble Against Abuse charity golf tournament, which is set for Monday, Sept. 23, at Cherokee Ranch Golf Club, 14881 Hwy. 79. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Crisis Center of Anderson & Cherokee Counties, including the Advocacy Center program; HOPE of Jacksonville and the 100 Club of East Texas.

The tournament can accommodate 22 teams of four players each. The cost is $100 per player, or $400 per team. Prize money will be awarded to the teams finishing in the top three of the tournament.

A shotgun start is set for 11 a.m. for all players. To register and pay to join the tournament, visit www.etcf.org and click on the main banner until Chief Hawkes’ Scramble Against Abuse is reached and then follow the link.

A silent auction will be held in conjunction with the tournament, with items awarded at the end of the day.

For those who do not play golf but would like to contribute to the cause, sponsorships are available on the same page as player registration. Individuals can also donate as a “virtual golfer.” Current sponsors include Christus Trinity Mother Frances-Jacksonville, Central Baptist Church, Emily & Terry Morrow, Ozarka, David Toms Academy, Austin Bank, Chick-fil-A, Bacon Family of Dealerships, Rudy’s, Edwin Watts Golf, Taco Bell and Tyler Beverages, Inc.

An awards dinner will be hosted at the close of the tournament.
