Back to School supply, clothing fairs to benefit JISD students

July 31, 2019

Students registered to attend school in Jacksonville are eligible to receive school supplies and school uniforms during two back to school fairs – both on Thursday, Aug. 1.

Students must be registered for the upcoming JISD school year to participate in the fairs. Students who haven’t registered can do so on the day of events at JISD Administration building located 800 College Ave., Jacksonville.

The Clothes Closet & More is holding its annual Outfitting for the Future school clothing fair, 3-8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Norman Activity Center, 526 E Commerce St., Jacksonville.

JISD students can select up to five outfits of school dress code appropriate clothing, including jeans, shoes, belts and accessories during the fair.

The Clothes Closet & More will also hold a bake sale, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 16, at Austin Bank-Jacksonville, 200 E. Commerce St., Jacksonville. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the organization’s Brown Bag lunch program, which provides sandwich meals to students to take home for the weekends. Each bagged lunch provides two sandwiches, chips or crackers, fruit or a dessert, and water on Fridays and Saturdays each week.

Jacksonville Chamber Back to School Fair volunteers are offering 1,000 backpacks with school supplies during the 14th annual Back 2 School Fair, which will be held 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1, at the John Alexander Gym.
“The Chamber’s Back to School Fair Committee, Jacksonville ISD employees and volunteers work together to get the students ready for the upcoming school year,” Project Coordinator Kim Smith said. “This is the 14th year the Jacksonville Chamber has organized this event. In the beginning, around 100 backpacks were given away and due to the donations from so many investing in our community, this year we will give away 1,000 backpacks filled with grade level school supplies.”

The Chamber received donations from businesses, civic clubs, churches and individuals.

To receive a free backpack with grade level school supplies, the child must be present and a registered Jacksonville ISD student.
Registered JISD students will receive a backpack with school supplies as well as visit other vendors providing information to prepare students and parents for the upcoming school year.
