Davis secures first place in pole bending

Jayse Tettenhorst, heeler, is working to lasso the hind legs of a calf during a recent team roping event. Tettenhorst was teamed with Cash Palmore of De Kalb during the International Youth Rodeo, which kicked off July 7. The rodeo included 10 events over a six day period in Shawnee, Okla.

The International Finals Youth Rodeo kicked off on Sunday, July 7 with top high school athletes competing in 10 events running simultaneously in three arenas over six days at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center in Shawnee, Okla. The event includes hundreds of contestants from all over the United States and Australia, each vying to win more than $250,000 in prize money. Area rodeo athletes who competed in the events were Kaden Profili and Jayse Tettenhorst of Jacksonville and Reagan Davis of Alto. Profili and Tettenhorst competed in the team roping events. Profili was partnered with Peyton Walters of Justin and Tettenhorst was partnered with Cash Palmore of De Kalb. Davis competed in three events; barrel racing, pole bending and breakaway roping.

Davis ended GO 1 with a fifth place spot in pole bending with an average time of 20.256 and 36th place for barrel racing with an average time of 16.922. For GO 1 Davis would tie with Ashlynne Blanton, Brandee Ferguson and Calli Snyder for 10th place in breakaway roping with a time of 2.6.

For GO 2 Davis took the first place spot in pole bending with an average time of 19.477. She tied with six other contestants for a spot in the top 20 for breakaway with a time of 2.8.

For GO 3, Davis once again secured the first place spot in pole bending with an average time of 19.881.

Davis would end with a first place spot and over $4,000 in earnings for her performance in pole bending.

The team of Profili and Walters would end GO 1 in 48th place with a time of 16.2, but the team improved both their time and standing in GO 2, finishing in 31st place with a time of 15.5.

The team of Tettenhorst and Palmore took 30th place in GO 1 with a time of 11.1. The team ended GO 2 with no time.
