Jacksonville throws some shade on splash pad

As part of the ongoing capital improvement projects of 2018 and 2019, the City of Jacksonville has completed a shade structure at Nichols’ Green Park’s splash pad.

The idea was conceptualized by Mayor Randy Gorham.

“Last summer, I was speaking with a couple of mothers who told me how much their young children loved the splash pad.” Gorham said. “What the moms did not like was how hot it got sitting there with no shade as they watched their kids play.

“I asked our city manager to look into what we could do to provide shade to the area.”

Jacksonville City Manager Greg Smith considered costs and options and, the City contracted with Jacksonville’s East Texas Awning and Canvas.

“I am very glad the City was able compete this project.” Smith said. “This will be a great benefit to parents who enjoy taking their kids to use the splash pad.”
