UPDATE: Local offices closing for Independence Day holiday

Offices of the cities of Rusk and Jacksonville will be closed for the Independence Day holiday, on Thursday, July 4 and Friday July 5. Both municipalities will open for regular business hours again on Monday, July 8. Anyone needing emergency assistance can call 9-1-1.

America’s Independence Day is annually recognized on July 4 and is a federal holiday. As such, post offices and banks will be closed on Thursday in observance of the holiday and will reopen for regular business hours on Friday.

The Cherokeean Herald offices will be closed Thursday, July 4, in observance of the holiday. The office will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Friday, July 5.

The city offices of Alto, Bullard, New Summerfield, Troup and Wells will all close July 4 and reopen for regular business hours on Friday, July 5.

Cherokee County offices will also close both Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office will close Thursday, July 4, in observance of the holiday, but will reopen Friday, July 5. For emergencies, call 9-1-1.

Libraries closing on the Fourth of July include Bullard Community Library, Jacksonville Public Library and the Rusk Public Library.

Trash pickup should not be disrupted for those with either Republic Services or Ameri-Tex Services as their services will run as regularly scheduled.
