Gearing up for the Fourth: Area offices, entities to close for July 4 holiday

America’s Independence Day is annually recognized on July 4 and is a federal holiday.

As such, post offices and banks will be closed in observance of the holiday.

The Cherokeean Herald office will be closed Thursday, July 4, in observance of the U.S.’s independence. The office will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Friday, July 5.

City offices of Alto, Bullard, Jacksonville, New Summerfield, Rusk, Troup and Wells will all close July 4.

County offices will close both Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office will close Thursday, July 4, but will reopen Friday, July 5. For emergencies, call 9-1-1.

Libraries closing on the Fourth of July include Bullard Community Library, Jacksonville Public Library, Rube Sessions Memorial Library in Wells and the Rusk Public Library.

Trash pickup won’t be disrupted for those with Republic Services or Ameri-Tex Services as their services will run as scheduled.
