From the desk of Travis Clardy

June 12, 2019

As the 86th Legislative Session wrapped up, I am pleased to report that nine of the bills I filed have passed out of the Senate and are headed to Governor Abbott’s desk to be signed into law.

To pass this number of bills is a significant legislative accomplishment, and I appreciate the input and support local elected officials, constituents and my staff invested to ensure these bills become law.

Reviewing bills with statewide impact, I am pleased to have the opportunity to cosponsor Senate Bill 16.

The House recently passed this measure, which will provide up to $4,000 a year and up to $20,000 over a college career for peace officers to pursue their college education or to help them repay their college loans.

There is a growing shortage of law enforcement officers in Texas, and this bill seeks to assist those who aspire to becoming peace officers with education and training expenses.

It is an honor to support our law enforcement officers who serve our communities faithfully with this program.

My office recently passed two resolutions in honor of members of our community.

House Resolution 1561 congratulates the Stephen F. Austin State University bowling team on their 2019 National Collegiate Women’s bowling Championship.

House Resolution 1576 honors the life of George Houston White who passed away earlier this year.

He was a true pillar of Rusk who made an impact on our East Texas community.

We also just filed a resolution, HR 1862, honoring Jacksonville Mayor Dick Stone on his retirement.

As the legislative session draws to a close, please feel free to contact my office with your concerns about bills that are still being considered by the Legislature.

We always welcome your input.
