Wells Pirates face LaPoynor Flyers in Regional baseball championship

Hopes for a State Championship title remain alive for the Wells Pirates after prevailing in a best of three series against the Kennard Tigers to win the regional semi-final.

The Pirates lost game one to the Tigers by a single point, 4-3, but came back and defeated Kennard in the final two games.

In the 8-2 win, Logan Tucker and Kaleb Parnell teamed up on the mound.

Tucker pitched four-and-one-third innings, earning five strikeouts, and Parnell pitched two-and-one-third innings, fanning two.

Jackson Scroggins led with 2 RBIs and Logan Tucker led in hits, posting two.

In the 9-6 win, Joshua Layton pitched six-and-one-third innings, fanning three.

Parnell pitched the final two-thirds inning. He also led in RBIs, posting three off two hits.

Tucker led with three hits, brining home two runners.

The Pirates will face the LaPoynor Flyers in the Regional Final.

A best of three series will be played at Jacksonville High School with game one set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 28.

The second game will begin 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30, and, if needed, a third game will begin 30 minutes following the second game.

The outcome of this best of three series will determine the Regional Champion, which will advance to the State Championship against the winner of the New Home versus Borden County contest.
