Pirates advance to baseball Regional semifinals

State baseball and softball championship runs are done for all but one Cherokee County team.

The Wells Pirates defeated the Chireno Owls in a best of three series.

Wells won game one by a score of 12-2.

Jakari Hadnot took the mound and earned 11 strikeouts in six innings of work.

Dillon Manning led with four RBIs and Hadnot posted two.

Logan Tucker pitched a five-inning shutout, 10-0, in the second game.

Jackson Scroggins posted a hit and three RBIs. Manning also had a hit with one RBI.

The Wells Pirates advance to the Regional Semifinals where they will face the Kennard Tigers in a best of three series.

All games will take place at Morris Frank Park in Lufkin.

Game one will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16.

Game two will begin at 3 p.m. and game three, if needed, will be played at 6 p.m. Friday, May 17.

Rusk

Eagles finish season as

Bi-district champs

The Rusk Eagles finished their post-season play with two losses to the Lorena Leopards, 4-1 and 3-1, in their bid to become area champions.

In game one, all the scoring took place in the first inning, with Lorena unable to expand their lead and Rusk unable to shorten it.

Mason Cirkel pitched the seven-inning game. Austin Gates is credited with the RBI.

Rusk took a first inning lead, 1-0, in the second game.

After that, neither team was able to score until the sixth inning when Lorena plated three runs taking the lead and the win.

The Rusk Eagles finish the season as bi-district champions.

Alto

’Jackets end season as bi-district champs

The Alto Yellowjackets lost their area playoff bid for an area title against the Shelbyville Dragons in two games, both ending in a score of 2-1.

Foster Hall pitched six innings of game one, striking out four batters.

Todd Duplichain pitched for a single inning, fanning one. Hall posted two hits and an RBI. Cody Watson pitched the second game, earning three strikeouts. Will Dixon posted two hits and an RBI.

The Yellowjackets end the season as bi-district champs.

Bullard

Lady Panthers end season as Area champs

The Bullard Lady Panthers ended their season with two losses, 10-8 and 13-1, in the Regional Quarterfinals against the North Lamar Lady Panthers.

The Lady Panthers end the season as area champions with an overall record of 28-6-2.

Panthers end season as Bidistrict champs

The Bullard Panthers lost their bid for an Area championship in a single game playoff against the Van Vandals, 4-2.

Colton Bowman and Hagen Smith teamed up on the mound.

Bowman pitched four-and-one-third innings, earning 11 strikeouts and Smith pitched two-and-two-thirds innings, striking out five batters. Ryley Sharp posted two hits and an RBI.

The Bullard Panthers end their season as bidistrict champs with an overall record of 22-6-2.
