Financial aid available

For low-income residents in Alto who were affected by the tornados, applications for financial assistance are now being accepted. Residents who own a home, but who did not have insurance, and renters who have been displaced from unlivable conditions may apply for assistance from The River.

The River, a local non-denominational church, is now accepting applications for financial aid. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at the office of Pastor Ron Rose, 112 San Antonio, located at the four-way stop.

Applicants will need to supply their name, home address (even if currently unlivable), income and specific need. The church will verify each need before disbursing funds. For those who have been displaced from rental housing, the church will assist financially when the applicant finds suitable replacement housing. For homeowners whose homes have been damaged, but are lacking insurance, the church will provide building materials for necessary repairs, and possibly financial assistance.

Though Rose reports he is trying to locate housing for displaced low-income and fixed-income persons through social media, the church itself has no housing to offer.

The River continues to accept financial contributions through their website and Rose states the church will match funds received for as long as they are able. Donations made through the church are tax deductible.
