Bess Marie Brunt Brown

April 05, 2019

Bess Marie Brunt Brown passed from her life of 91 years on Monday, April 1, at Oak Manor Nursing Home in Nacogdoches.

Born in 1928 to Jesse Brunt and Era Hunt in Alto, she enjoyed growing up in East Texas with her two sisters and brother. She was a Dallas telephone operator in her earlier years and was a secretary living in Irving, where she met her husband, Retired MSgt.

Horace Brown and they enjoyed dancing together, traveling and then retirement. Marie or ‘Me-maw’ was a gifted artist staying busy with canvas oil painting, stained glass art and anything else she set her mind to do. She is remembered as enjoying talking to people, cats, birds, whoever listened. She enjoyed dressing up and she loved her jewelry, a Southern belle.

She is a three time cancer survivor. She enjoyed retirement with “Hank” until his passing in 2012. She has been a long time resident of Oak Manor. She is survived by her stepson, Mike; stepdaughter, Debra with husband Jack (“Jackson” as she called him); four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, who all reside out of state. Her last wishes of cremation will be carried out by O.T. Allen Funeral Service in Alto. May she rest in the arms of Jesus! No services are planned.
