Fox Box: Panthers host Eagles, Indians, others in relay events

The Bullard Panthers hosted relays Friday, March 8, in which two other Cherokee County teams, Jacksonville and Rusk, participated along with Cumberland Academy, Mineola and West Rusk.

Boys

Bullard took first place overall in the boys competition with 137 points, Rusk completed the meet in second place (130) and Jacksonville finished third (113).

In the 100-meter, Jacksonville’s Deshaun McCuin placed first with a time of 11.13 and teammate Jamarious Hart took third with a time of 11.43. Bullard runner Gage Wakefield tied for third (11.43) and teammate Josh Mascolo took fifth (11.65). Rusk’s Byron Johnson placed sixth (11.88).

Semaj Johnson, of Rusk, took third in the 200-meter with a time of 23.49. Bullard runners placed seventh, Reece Ricketts, 24.43; ninth, Elijah Gillam, 24.58; and tenth, Whitney Parks, 24.78.

Rusk runners placed three in the top five in the 400-meter. Ladadrian Polk was second (51.53), Jaheim Upshaw, fourth (55.24), and Sean Rogers, fifth (55.49). Bryson Tatum of Jacksonville placed third in the event with a time of 53.84, while teammate Steven Gallegos finished eighth (56.91).

Bullard placed first in the 800-meter with runner Harrison Meador completing the race in a time of 2:07.10. Second place went to Polk, of Rusk, with at time of 2:11.20. Marco Hernandez, of Jacksonville, captured third with a time of 2:15.20. Rusk runners also finished fourth, Zane Cunningham (2:20.10) and fifth, Eli Deleguea (2:21.90).

In the 1600-meter, Bullard’s Hayden Jeffus placed second with a time of 4:49.40. Rusk’s Marco Torres took third (5:15.70), while teammate Zane Cunningham finished seventh (5:25.30).

The 3200-meter top spot went to Jeffus, with a time of 10:41.00, and teammate Caleb Carmichael took third, 11.32.00. Rusk’s Torres placed fourth with a time of 12:00.00.

Bullard athletes finished among the top 10 in the hurdles events.

Cameron Baldwin captured second, 15.96; and Dustin Dover, sixth, 17.41 and Kody Reichert, ninth, 20.75 in the 110-meter hurdles. In the 300-meter hurdles, Baldwin took third, 46.10; Dover placed fourth, 46.69; and Reichert finished sixth, 49.43.

Jacksonville, Bullard and Rusk relay teams finished first, second and third, respectively, in both the 100-meter and 200-meter relays. The teams finished in the same order, but in second, third, and fourth place in the 400-meter relay.

Rusk took the top spot in the shot with Lewis’ put of 45-9. Teammate Garrett Blalock finished third with a distance of 40-5 and Jacksonville’s Jeremichael Calhoun placed fourth, 39-9.5.

The top finishes in the discus included Lewis, Rusk, 145-6; Blalock, Rusk, 115-1; Brett Hammons, Bullard, 110-4; and Braeden Obannon, Bullard, 105-4. Jacksonville’s Preston Chandler finished seventh with a distance of 94-5.

Jacksonville’s Chris Carpenter took top honors in the high jump at 6-0. Ty Rucker, of Bullard, took third, 5-08, and Rusk’s Rogers placed sixth, 5-06.

In the long jump, Rusk’s Johnson finished first with a distance of 20-0. Jacksonville’s T.J. Ratliffe took third, 19-3.75; Baldwin, Bullard, fourth, 19-2.5 and Nicholas Hooley, Bullard, fifth, 19-1.

Jacksonville’s Carpenter captured first in the triple jump with a distance of 44-4.75 and Joseph Francis, of Rusk, placed second, 43-5. Byron Johnson, also of Rusk, placed ninth with a triple jump of 32-6.5.

Bullard’s Tag Martin soared to first in the pole vault with a height of 11-0. Fellow team member Ty Rucker took third with a height of 5-10. Rusk’s Rogers placed sixth with a height of 5-6.

Girls

In the girls’ competition, Bullard finished second with 149 points, behind Mineola, cptureing first with 170 points. The remaining top five spots went to Jacksonville (147), West Rusk (64) and Rusk (41).

Top honors in the 100-meter went to Bullard’s Jenaia Williams with a time of 12.56. Teammate Jalecia Allison took fifth with a time of 13.35. Rusk’s Zoe Fields captured fourth with a time of 13.15 and Valerie Ivy, seventh, 13.68. Grace Ambercrombie of Jacksonville finished sixth with a time of 13.38.

Top finishers in the 200-meter included first place, K. Anderson, Jacksonville, 26.36; second, Fields, Rusk, 27.18; third, Triniya Matlock, Jacksonville, 27.79; fourth, Jalecia Allison, Bullard, 28.19.

In the 400-meter, Bullard’s Williams captured another first place with a time of 57.59, while teammate Siearra Brown took third with a time of 1:04.37. Jacksonville runners Dayana Munoz and Reyna Munoz placed fourth (1:09.34) and fifth (1:10.77), respectively.

Bullard placed second, Emily Berry, 2:35.50, and fifth, Erin Berry, 2:51.30 in the 800-meter. Jacksonville runners Reyna Munoz placed fourth, 2:47.50, and Jazlyn Gomez, sixth, 2:53.00.

Emily Berry, of Bullard, took the top spot in both 1600-meter (5:44.60) and 3200-meter (12.45.00). Jacksonville’s Alexia Davis placed third in both events with times of 6:11.30 and 13:18.00, respectively. Lucy Moore, of Bullard placed fifth (6:27.10) in the 1600-meter and sixth in the 3200-meter (14.03.00). Rusk’s Jordyn Babyak placed sixth in the 1600-meter with a time of 6:29.10. Madison Soultanova, also of Jacksonville, placed second in the 3200-meter with a time of 12:58.00.

Ashlyn Meador, of Bullard, finished first in both the 100-meter (15.93) and 300-meter hurdles (50.89). Jacksonville’s Meagen Holiday finished third (18.43) in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth (57.48) in the 300-meter hurdles while teammate Victoria Simmons finished fourth in the 100-meter (22.56) and third in the 300-meter hurdles (56.82).

The four-member team from Jacksonville finished second in the 100-meter relay with a time of 51.57. In the 200-meter relay, Jacksonville placed second with a time of 1:50.56. Bullard finished fourth in the 200-meter relay with a time of 1:53.37.

In the 400-meter relay, Bullard captured first with a time of 4:13.80 and Jacksonville placed second with a time of 4:20.40.

T. Gibson, of Jacksonville, won the shot put with a distance of 36-9.5. Rusk’s Kacey Merle Besson placed third with a put of 34-8. Jacksonville’s Tay Swindell finished sixth with a distance of 30-3.

In the discus, Besson placed first with a distance of 111-7 and Bullard’s Sara Wallace took third, 88-9. Mason Blalock, of Rusk, finished seventh with a distance of 74-10.

Top finishers in the high jump included first, Ashley Waterman, Bullard, 5-00; second, Abercrombie, Jacksonville, 4-10; third, Jamyah Anderson, Rusk, 4-08; and fourth, Sara McKeethan, Bullard, 4-08.

Long jump finishers included Bullard’s McKeethan in second (15-4.5), Jacksonville’s Jakayla Young in fourth (14-10.25) Jaiden Knowlton, of Bullard, in seventh (12-11.25) and Rusk’s Tori Davis, eighth (12-0.75).

Jacksonville’s Young placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 32-5.75. Rusk athletes Mattilyn Hamlton placed fourth (27-3) and Victoria Davis placed fifth (26-3.5).

Macie Turrentine, of Bullard, took second in the pole vault with a height of 7-06.

The next meet for all three teams will be the Doug Jordan Relays hosted by Rusk on Friday, March 22.
