Track and field events opened for three Cherokee County teams at the Jacksonville Tribe Relays Friday, March 1.

In the boys’ events, Jacksonville placed third with 83 points, behind Tyler Lee (129) and Lufkin (103). Bullard placed fifth (67), followed by Rusk in sixth with 44 points.

In the 100-meter dash, Jacksonville runners Deshawn McCuin took second with a time of 11.16 seconds, and teammate Jamariou Hart placed fifth (11.49). Bullard runners in the 100-meter dash were Josh Mascola, 7th, 11.63; Reece Ricketts, 13th, 12.44 and Elijah Gilliam, 14th, 12.47. Rusk athlete Trey Devereaux finished 10th with a time of 11.70.

In the 200-meter dash, Rusk’s Sean Rogers placed 6th with a time of 24.61 and Landon Weaver finished 10th with a time of 24.82. Bullard runners included Whitney Parks, 9th, 24.78; Reece Ricketts, 12th, 25.01 and Elijah Gilliam, 13th, 25.59.

Rusk’s Ladadrian Polk took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.29. Teammates Sean Rogers and Jaheim Upshaw finished seventh (55.59) and ninth (56.28) respectively. Bullard’s Daniel Esposito finished 11th (57.15) and Tag Martin came in 12th (57.82).

Charles Meador of Bullard took first in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:04.95. Jacksonville’s Marco Hernandez finished sixth with a time of 2:14.46.

In the 1600-meter run, Hayden Jeffus of Bullard placed second with a time of 4:54.15. Jeffus also placed second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:22.69.

Three Bullard athletes placed in the 100- and 300-metere hurdles. In the 100-meter, Cameron Baldwin placed second (16.45), Dustin Dover took fifth (17.65) and Kody Reichert placed sixth (20.83). Jacksonville’s Patrick Clater came in seventh (21.21). In the 300-meter Baldwin again placed second (44.19), with Dover and Reichert taking fifth (47.59) and sixth (49.51), respectively.

The Jacksonville team of Chris Carpenter, Jeremiah Mobley, Deshawn McCuin and Aaron Richardson captured first in the 100-meter relay with a run of 43.78. The Rusk team of Semaj Johnson, Isaiah Ward, Ladadrian Polk and Trey Devereaux placed fourth with a time of 44.77. Reece Ricketts, Bryson Luscombe, Nicholas Hooley and Landon Wheeler of Bullard took fifth with a time of 45.09.

The same relay team of Carpenter, Mobley, McCuin and Richardson took first in the 200-meter relays with a time of 1:32.88. Rusk and Bullard also placed fourth (1:34.52) and fifth (1:34.64), respectively, but with changes to the relay members. The team for Rusk included Johnson, Landon Weaver, Ward and Devereaux. The Bullard team included Derek Garces, Luscombe, Zachary Vanwinkle and Wheeler.

The Bullard team of Garces, Wheeler, Meador and Hooley placed fourth in the 400-meter relays with a time of 3:41.21. The Jacksonville team of Carpenter, Mobley, Hernandez and Tatum took fifth (3:45.51), while the Bullard team of Johnson, Upshaw, Polk and Ward placed sixth (3:51.52).

In the long jump finals Jacksonville captured second place with a distance of 20-0 by T.J. Ratliffe. Rusk athlete Johnson took third with a jump of 19-11. Teammate Weaver placed ninth, 18-0½ , and Rogers finished tenth, 17-11. Bullard competitors included Hooley, fifth, 19-4; and Bryson Luscombe, 12th, 16-4.

Jacksonville’s Carpenter finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 42-4. Ward, of Rusk, placed fourth with a distance of 39-0. Carpenter again finished first. His height was measured at 42-4. Rusk’s Rogers placed fourth, 5-8, and Polk tied for fifth with a height of 5-6.

Garces of Bullard also tied for fifth, 5-6.

Jacksonville seized second place with 117 points in girls’ competition, falling behind Tyler Lee (152). Bullard came in fifth (44) and Rusk finished seventh (9).

In the 100-meter dash, Bullard’s Jalicea Allison placed sixth with a time of 13.63. Teammate Jaiden Knowlton finished 11th (15.04). Rusk’s Zoe Fields finished eighth (13.90), and Victoria Ivy placed tenth (14.46).

Fields placed 11th in the 200-meter, with a time of 28.43. She was followed by LeLe Anderson of Jacksonville, 12th, 28.71; Knowlton of Bullard, 13th, 32.27; and Ivy, 14th, 37.72.

Jenaia Williams of Bullard captured first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.57. Ivy of Rusk placed sixth (1:06.56). Bullard’s Tierra Brown (1:07.21) and Abby Petty (1:07.21) placed eighth and ninth, respectively. Jacksonville’s Dayana Munoz placed tenth (1:08.99). Other competitors included Reyna Munoz, Jacksonville, 13th, 1:10.64; Jazlyn Gomez, Jacksonville, 14th, 1:11.00; Grace Young, Rusk, 15th, 1:11.13; and Melonie Santos, Rusk, 16th, 1:20.65.

Jacksonville placed third, fourth and fifth in the 800-meter with runners Gomez, 2:42.37; Munoz, 2:49.40; and Alexia Davis, 2:49.70. Rusk’s Haley Hancock placed sixth 2:53.84.

Madison Soultonoz finished first in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:54.19. Lucy Moore of Bullard placed fifth, 6:21.96; Jacksonville’s Gomez placed sixth, 6:22.42; and Rusk’s Hancock, seventh, 6:37.25.

Soultonoz also captured first in the 3200-meter run, with a time of 12:53.53. Teammate Alexia Davis took fourth, 13:07.02; while Bullard’s Lucy Moore placed sixth, 13:41.85.

Ashlyn Meador took first in both hurdles events. Her time in the 100-meter was 16.14 and in the 300-meter, 51.09.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Jacksonville took fourth, Meagan Holiday, 18:81; sixth, Tori Snyder, 19.90; and eighth, Ashley Duncan, 20.35. In the 300-meter, Jacksonville placed fifth, Victoria Simmons, 57.52, and seventh, Tori Snyder, 1:00.59.

The Jacksonville team of Katelynn Hogg, Jakayla Young, LeLe Anderson and Alexis Calderon placed second in the 100-meter relay, 50.94, and in the 200-meter relay, 1:50.27. The team of Hogg, Young, Calderon and R. Munoz placed second in the 400-meter relay with a time of 4:28.19.

Hogg captured first in the long jump with a distance of 15-10. Teammate Jakayla Young placed ninth with a jump of 13-5.

In the triple jump, Hogg placed third with a distance of 33-6; Grace Abercrombie, fourth, 33-3; and Young, sixth, 30-7. Rusk’s Courtney Metcalf finished 10th, 25-4½; Mattilyn Hamilton, 11th, 25-4; and Victoria Davis, 12th, 21-9½.

Ashley Waterman, of Bullard, captured first in the high jump with a height of 5-0. Rusks’ Jamyah Anderson tied for second at 4-8 and Jacksonville’s Gomez took fourth at a height of 4-6.

New Summerfield and Troup each participated in the Dee Mackey Relays at Union Grove.

In the boys’ competition, New Summerfield’s Raymundo Sanchez placed sixth in the 800-meter with a time of 2:14.83 and Troup’s Easton Haugeberg placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5-06.

In girls’ competition, Troup’s Emiley Neel captured first place in the 1600-meter, 5:45.03, and the 3200-meter, 12:06.00. Teammate Marigold Hunter finished second in the 1600, 5:56.70, and third in the 3200, 12:58.00. Tatum Hunter placed fifth in the 1600 meter with a time of 6:14.38.

Lyric Gipson placed fifth in the shot with a put of 30-3. Bailey Hartley finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 9-00.
