Fat Tuesday fellowship: FUMC-Rusk offering traditional Shrove Tuesday fare

February 27, 2019

Celebrate Fat Tuesday by fattening up before Lent, at the First United Methodist Church -Rusk’s annual pancake supper.

“Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday,” according to the website, holidayinsights.com. “It is also known as Mardi Gras Day or Shrove Day. It is a day when people eat all they want of everything and anything they want as the following day is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of a long fasting period for Christians.”

As Christians readied themselves for fasting during Lent, many would serve pancakes, as a simple recipe to use up fattening ingredients like eggs, milk and butter.

In that tradition, FUMC- Rusk is hosting a Fat Tuesday pancake and sausage supper from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at the church, 255 Henderson Ave, Rusk. This event is free and open to the public.
