Hornets’ senior basketball players honored

New Summerfield honored the senior members of the basketball team Friday, Feb. 8, which resulted in a celebration of the entire squad as each of the 12 members is a senior.

Carson Jones, #00, played four years on varsity and has also played basketball. He plans to attend a junior college to continue is education following graduation.

This is the first year for Jayce Fry, #1, to join the varsity team. He has played varsity baseball for two years. Fry plans to attend a technical school after high school.

This is the second year on varsity for Jose Nunez, #2. He has also competed on varsity for cross country, soccer, track and baseball. Nunez plans to attend Tyler Junior College.

Bryant Leon, #3, is completing his second year on varsity. He also competes in track. Leon plans to get a job in the oilfield after graduation.

This has been the first year for Juan Hernandez, #4, to be part of the varsity squad. He participates in cross country, track and soccer. Hernandez plans to go to Texas State Technical College.

This is the second year Luis Martinez has played varsity. He also plays baseball. Martinez plans on finding a well-paying job after graduation.

Dakota Stewart has played two years on varsity and has participated in baseball, track and cross country. He plans to attend Stephen F. Austin University and major in mass communications.

This is the second year for Alfredo Juarez Rojas to play varsity. He as also spent four years playing baseball and running track. He plans on playing college baseball and getting a well-paying job after high school.

Jose Leon, #21, is completing his first year with the varsity team. He also competes in track. Leon plans to attend college following graduation.

This is the third year for Julio Parra, #34, to be on the varsity squad. He has also played baseball. Parra plans to attend a welding school following graduation.

Elvis Mendoza, #35, is also finishing his third year on varsity and has participated in baseball. He plans to attend TJC to become a physical therapist.

Collin Wilkerson, #45, has participated on the varsity team all four years of high school, scoring 1,667 points during that time. He plans to play collegiate basketball at a four-year university while obtaining a bachelor degree in sports management.

One member of the cheerleading squad was also recognized, senior Sara Rangel. She has been in cheer for two years.

Rangel plans to attend Navarro College, majoring in sociology and playing soccer. She later plans to enlist in the United States Air Force.

The basketball team won their senior night game against Alto, 70-62.
