Funeral Services for Billy Joe Hanson, 86, of Rusk will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home with Bro. Mick Guess and Bro. Don Copeland officiating. Burial will follow at Hanson Cemetery.

Mr. Hanson passed away at home February 6, 2019. He was born June 10, 1932 in Sardis, Texas to the late Lige and Ruby Hanson. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force and was part of the Strategic Air Command as a radio repairman. He retired from Cherokee County Electric Cooperative as a Line Foreman, he owned a paving business, as well as being a real estate agent and co-owned Cherokee Arms and Ammo. He also founded the Bull Creek Hunting club back in 1976. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and most of all spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia Hanson of Rusk, children, Michael Hanson of Rusk, Patti and her husband Jim Williams of Bullard, grandsons, Michael Jr. and his wife Tammy Hanson of Timpson, Justin Keith and his wife Brandy Hanson of Vinton, Louisiana, John Cody Hanson and his partner Wendy of Starks, Louisiana, Jason and his wife Myra Ball of Rusk, great-grandchildren, Wyatt Ball of Rusk, Shane Ball of Rusk, Jake Michael Hanson of Timpson, Macey Jo Hanson of Timpson, Abbie Hanson of Starks, Louisiana, sister Winnie Evans of Clute, Texas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Justin Keith, John Cody, Mike Hanson Jr., Jason Ball, as well as Paul Gluck, and Jeremy Simpson. Honorary pallbearers will be long time business partner and friend Tom Ball, George Robert Williams, Dennis Johnson, and the members of Bull Creek Hunting Club.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2019 at the funeral home.
