Fox Box: Powerlifting, tennis stats

Several schools in Cherokee County participated in recent powerlifting competitions.

Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Indians traveled to Nacogdoches for the Dragon powerlifting meet Thursday, Jan. 31.

The team placed fourth with 21 points behind Nacogdoches (32), Diboll (30) and Lufkin (27).

Two team members earned first place including Ben Villegas in the 148 class with lifts totaling 930 pounds and Jacob Huddleston in the 181 class with a total weight of 1,000 pounds.

Gerardo Rameriz took second in the 165 class with a total weight of 970 pounds.

Other members finishing the meet include Cameron Glass, 165 class, fifth, 825 pounds total; Alberto Lonzono, 165 class, sixth, 800; Tristan turner 198 class, sixth, 915; and Zala Antonio, 242 class, fifth, 955.

The Maidens, who also participated at the Dragon meet finished in second place with 47 points, just behind San Augustine (50).

Four of the women’s team earned first place including Chloe Devillier in the 97 class, with a total weight of 545; Karleigh Stewart, 105 class, 505; Brittany Westbrook, 114 class, 605; and Yanelly Barrea, 181 class, 790.

Finishing in second was Alica Trujillo in the 123 class with lifts totaling 540 pounds.

Just as many members of the team finished third as finished first. These included Rebecca Toledo, 123 class, 430 pounds; Juliana Harwell, 132 class, 465; Mallory George, 181 class, 550; and Amarelis Gonzalez, 220 class, 530.

Kyeleigh Kincade placed fourth in the 132 class with a total weight of 410 pounds.

Bullard

The Bullard Panthers and Lady Panthers attended the REL Invitational held in Tyler Thursday, Jan. 31. Both teams placed third, the men’s team with 37 points behind Gilmer (62) and Tyler Lee (43) and the women’s team with 26 points behind Gilmer (72) and Tyler Lee (48).

Two members of the men’s team earned first place including Byrson Luscombe in the 148 class with a total weight of 1,070 pounds and John Engle in the 165 class with a combined weight of 1,000 pounds.

Three members took home second place finishes including Cameron Bridges, 220 class, 1,130 pounds; William Morse, 242 class, 1,100; and Carson Wilborn, 275 class, 1,140.

Wallker Stegall took third place in the 148 class with a total weight of 745 pounds.

Angel Hernandez also placed third, but in the 165 class with a combined weight of 720 pounds.

Stone Smith landed in fourth place in the 132 class with a total weight of 625 pounds.

The women’s team earned three first-place finish and a second-place. The trio of first-place finishers included Charity Campbell, 165 class, 845; Maria Vences, 181 class, 825; and Leighann Langston, 259+ class, 1,010.

Heather Coe took second place in the 259 class with a total weight of 815 pounds.

The next meet for Bullard will be Thursday, Feb. 7, at Chapel Hill.

Rusk

Rusk hosted a powerlifting meet Saturday, Feb. 2 in which the host teams both finished in the top three.

The Eagles had 32 points to finish first, with Elkhart (24) and Whitehouse (23) rounding out the top three spots.

Two first place finishes went to individual lifters including Nick Acker in the 242 class with a combined weight of 1,280 and Jermaine Lewis in the super heavy weight division with a 1,535 pound total.

Second places went to BJ Johnston in the 181 class with a total weight of 1,245, Jaden Turner in the 275 class with lifts totaling 1,345 pounds and Garrett Blaylock in the super heavy weight class with a 1,480 pound total.

Other finishes include Jackson Rogers, 198 class, fourth, 1,100 and Sean Rogers, 181 class, fifth, 1,060.

Jermaine Lewis was named third best lifter of the meet.

The Lady Eagles placed third in the meet with 28 points behind Whitehouse (40) and Elkhart (30).

Individuals placing first were Victoria Ivy in the 105 class with a total 575 pounds and David-Lee Martinez in the 198 class with total weight of 830.

Second place finishers included Zoe Fields in the 123 class with 570 pounds and Valerie Ivy in the 132 class with a total weight of 675, just five pounds shy of the first place lifter.

Other finishers include Kelcie White, 181 class, third, 675; and Melanie Santos, 114 class, fifth, 370.

Victoria Ivy was named best lifter for the 97-148 classes while David-Lee Martinez earned third in the 165-259+ classes.

Valerie Ivy took third best lift in the squat for the 97-148 classes and David-Lee Martinez placed third in the same event for 165-259+ classes.

Victoria Ivy had the second best lift in the bench press for the 97-148 classes.

The next meet for Rusk will be Thursday, Feb. 14, at Whitehouse.

Tennis

The Bullard varsity tennis teams participated in the Hallsville Invitational Friday, Jan. 25.

Earning first place was the Mixed B Doubles team of Chelsea Davis and Colton Berryhill.

Alex Breedlove placed second in Girls B Singles. Also in singles competition, Dylan Sloan took third in Boys A and Abby Wills in Girls A competition.

Vicotia Vidal and Livi Hayes received first place consolation in Girls B Doubles.

The varsity teams are scheduled to play in Kilgore Friday, Feb. 8.
