Bullard High School hosted the Bullard Invitational, a powerlifting meet, Saturday, Jan. 26. Men’s and women’s teams from a total of 10 schools participated, including Rusk and Troup.

In the men’s division, Rusk ranked second with 32 points, just two points behind first place Tyler Lee. Bullard placed third with 27 points and Troup again placed sixth with a total of 17 points.

In women’s competition, Fairfield finished in first with 41 points. Bullard ranked second with 29 points. Rusk placed fourth with 21 points and Troup earned sixth place with 21 points.

Bullard

The Bullard men’s powerlifting team earned three first place spots at the Bullard Invitational and finished third place as a team.

Stone Smith, in the 132 weight class, placed first with a 235-pound lift in the squat, a 95-pound bench press and 250-pound dead lift for a 580-pound total.

Byrson Luscombe placed first in the 148 class with lifts of 390, 250 and 400, respectively, for a total 1,040 pounds.

In the 220-weight class, Cameron Bridges finished first with 480-, 280, and 390-pound lifts for a total weight of 1,150 pounds.

Carson Willborn finished third in the 275 weight class with lifts totaling 1,105 pounds (435, 245 and 425 pounds).

Other competitors included William Morse (275 weight class) in fourth, John Engle (165 class), fifth, and Walker Stehall (148) and Angel Hernandez (165), each placed ninth.

The Bullard women completed the tournament with three first place finishes, as well as a second- and third-place finish. The team earned second place overall.

The trio of first-place finishes were earned by Charity Campbell, Maria Vences and Leighann Langston.

Campbell (165 weight class) lifted 315 pounds in the squat, 200 in the bench and 330 in the dead lift for a total of 845 pounds. Vences (181) totaled 835 pounds with lifts of 335, 200 and 300 pounds. Langston (259+) had a total of 1,1015 pounds from lifts of 400-, 365- and 350-pounds.

Pineda (132) earned her spot with lifts of 225, 85 and 275 pounds, for a total weight of 585-pounds. Coe (259) totaled 810-pounds with 400-, 265- and 350-pound lifts.

The next meet for Bullard powerlifting teams will be at Tyler Lee Thursday, Jan. 31.

Rusk

The Rusk Eagles secured second place as a team at the Bullard Invitational with three first place finishes, a second and two third-place spots.

First place finishers were Byron Johnson, Jackson Rogers and Nick Acker.

Johnson, competing in the 181 weight class, totaled 1,185 pounds with lifts of 450 pounds in the squat, 275 in the bench press and 460 in the dead lift. Rogers (198) finished with lifts of 390, 245 and 430 pounds for a total weight of 1,065. Acker (242) completed the tournament with a total weight of 1,285 pounds after lifts of 545, 275 and 465.

Second place finisher Garrett Blalock competed in the super-heavy weight division. His total weight was 1,425. Third place finishers were Sean Rogers (181) with a total weight of 1,065 and Jermaine Lewis (SHW) with a total 1,365 pounds.

The Lady Eagles placed fourth as a team with two individual first place finishes and one second place.

First place was awarded to Victoria Ivy, (105) for her lifts of 205, 110 and 230 pounds for a combined weight of 545 pounds. Zoe Fields (114) also earned first for her total weight of 545 pounds, which included lifts of 220, 95 and 230 pounds.

Davidlee Martinez (198) earned second with lifts of 340, 140 and 325 pounds for a combined weight of 805 pounds.

Other finishers included Kelsey White (181) in fourth place with a total weight of 710 pounds; Melanie Santos (114), sixth place, 340-pound total; Mason Blalock, (165), sixth place, 545 total; Lilli Jones (181), twelfth place, 420 total.

The Rusk powerlifting teams will host their next competition Saturday, Feb. 2.

Troup

The Troup Tigers completed the Bullard Invitational in sixth place, with highest individual rankings being two second place finishes.

Austin Miller, competing in the 132-weight class, finished second with a total weight of 505 pounds. He lifted 180 in the squat, 100 in the bench and 225 in the dead lift. Teammate Bryce Attaway also took second, competing in the 165-weight class. His lifts of 460, 280 and 415 totaled 1,155 pounds.

Other Tigers competing included Chadd Cole (165), third place, 1,065 pound total weight; Kaden Mahoney (148), fourth, 850 pounds; John Ford (148), fifth, 835 pounds; Spencer Allen (220), fifth, 740 pounds and Jesse Calley (148) seventh, 770 pounds.

The Lady Tigers also finished sixth at the Bullard Invitational with two second place finishes topping their efforts.

Second place winners were Jalyce Dennis (259) and Alondra Salinas (259+). Dennis totaled 930 pounds with lifts of 355, 205 and 370. Salinas’ lifts of 400, 200 and 340 totaled 940 pounds.

Tatum Hunter (132) finished third with her total weight of 470 pounds on lifts of 175, 95 and 200 pounds. Rhema Pitts (148), also third, had a combined weight of 710 pounds, including lifts of 285, 140 and 285 pounds. Last in a trio of third place finishes was Maryssa Gilliam (198) with lifts of 320, 150 and 340 pounds, totaling 790 pounds.

Other competitors included Cali Mendonca (132), fourth, 470 pounds; Francis Zuniga (148), sixth, 600 pounds; Alexis Shelton, seventh, 625 pounds; Jayme Zavalla (165), eighth, 600 pounds; Harlee Hunter (165), ninth, 425 pounds and Reyna Ramirez, fourteenth, 390 pound.

The next meet for the Troup powerlifting teams is Thursday, Feb. 7, at Chapel Hill.

Jacksonville

The Jacksonville powerlifting teams participated in the Lion Invitational in Henderson Thursday, Jan. 24. The men’s team finished sixth overall and the women’s team earned fourth.

The highest place earned by the Indians was third by Gerardo Ramirez with a total weight of 955 consisting of a 355-pound squat, 225-pound bench press and a 380-pound dead lift.

In the women’s division, the Maidens earned three first-place finishes.

The trio earning top honors were Chloe Devillier in the 97-pound weight class, Karleigh Stewart, 105 class and Yanelly Barrera, 181 class.

Devillier’s total weight of 540 pounds consisted of a 225-pound squat, 100-pound bench and 215 dead lift. Stewart’s lifts of 210, 90 and 210 pounds totaled 510 pounds.Berrera’s total 770 pounds came from 315-, 145- and 310-pound lifts.

Other Maidens finishing included Amerelis Gonzalez (220), third, 510-pound total weight; Mallory George (181), fourth, 525 pounds; Alicia Turjullo (123), fourth, 515 pounds; Kristen Gonzalez (148), sixth, 515 pounds; Juliana Harwell (132), eighth, 450 pounds and Kyleigh Kincade (148), tenth, 420 pounds.

The next meet for the Jacksonville powerlifting teams will be at Nacogdoches Thursday, Jan. 31.
