From the desk of Travis Clardy

by Rep. Travis Clardy

This week, Speaker Dennis Bonnen released the much-anticipated House committee assignments for the 86th Legislative Session. I was pleased to be appointed to two important committees: the Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety and the Committee on Human Services. I am honored to serve on these committees and have the opportunity to evaluate and employ legislation that will serve the people of Texas.

The Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety has jurisdiction over defense of the state and nation, and addresses issues including terrorism, disaster mitigation, law enforcement, and the operations and duties of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Washington, D.C. has long failed Texans -- and all Americans -- on immigration reform and border security. I welcome the opportunity to hear, discuss, and implement policies that will protect our border with Mexico, restore law and order, and reaffirm our commitment to safeguard our citizens and grow our state’s economy.

The Committee on Human Services has jurisdiction over state resources used to address the mental welfare of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Agencies under its jurisdiction include the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. I am ready to meet with my colleagues to improve and make effective treatment and protections accessible for our most vulnerable citizens, our children and those who suffer from mental health issues.

I welcome your input on legislation that will be heard by these important committees, and I encourage you to share your insight and be a part of the legislative process. I am honored to serve the people of House District 11 and the state of Texas in this 86th Legislative Session.
