As basketball teams are deep into district play, powerlifting and tennis teams have attended their first meets.

Powerlifting

Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Maidens finished second, with 26 points, to host Lindale, 32 points, in their first powerlifting event of the season. Helping the team to their second-place result were three Maidens who earned first-place finishes and another who took a second-place.

Chloe Devillier participated first in the 97-pound weight class. Her lifts of 210 in the squat, 100-pound bench press and a 205-pound dead lift for a total weight of 515 pounds earned her first place.

Karleigh Stewart took first in the 105-pound class with lifts of 200, 65 and 210 for a 475-pound total.

Brittany Westbrook won the 114-pound class with lifts of 210, 135 and 240 for a total weight of 585.

Placing second in the 181-pound class, Yanelly Barrera lifted 305, 135 and 300 for a total of 740 pounds.

The Jacksonville teams will next compete at Bullard High School Saturday, Jan. 26.

Rusk

The Rusk Eagles powerlifting team triumphed at the Elkhart meet Thursday, Jan. 17, earning 33 points. Each of three lifters earned first place in their weight classes and with two others finished second.

Host Elkhart finished second with 31 points and Livingston earned third place with 29.

In the 181-pound weight class, Byron Johnson dominated. He had a 440-pound lift in the squat, 260-pound bench press and 430 in the dead lift for a weight total of 1,130 pounds. Teammate Sean Rogers placed fourth with lifts of 380, 250 and 405 for a total 1,035 pounds. Chris Lawson, also in the 181-pound weight class, placed sixth with lifts of 330, 180 and 325 for a total 835 pounds.

Nick Acker placed first in the 242-pound weight class with lifts of 520 in the squat, 275 in the bench press and 465 in the dead lift for a weight total 1,020 pounds.

In the super heavy-weight class, Jermaine Lewis lifted 580 pounds in the squat, 305 in the bench and 560 in the dead lift for a 1,445 total weight.

Teammate Garrett Blaylock finished second in the same weight class with lifts of 515, 265 and 540 for a total weight of 1,320 pounds.

Roger Jackson placed second in the 198-pound weight class with lifts of 415, 225 and 380 for a total of 1,020.

The next scheduled meet for the Rusk Eagles is at Bullard High School Saturday, Jan. 26.

Troup

The Troup Tigers powerlifting team visited Lindale Saturday, Jan. 12, and left with several individual awards. The team placed sixth overall.

Malik Gilliam earned first in the super heavyweight division with a squat of 650 pounds, a 315-pound bench press and a 500-pound dead lift for a total of 1,465 pounds.

Bryce Attaway, participating in the 165-pound class, finished third with lifts of 430-, 270- and 430-pounds for a total of 1,130 pounds.

Cahdd Cole finished fourth in the 165-pound class. His lifts of 415-, 240- and 420-pounds totaled 1,075 pounds.

In the women’s division, the Lady Tigers placed fourth overall.

Jalyce Dennis and Alondra Salinas each took home first-place awards in their respective divisions.

Dennis had lifts of 360-pounds in the squat, 205 in the bench press and 370 in the deadlift for a total 935 pounds.

Salinas had lifts of 400-, 200- and 315-pounds for a total 915 pounds.

Maryssa Gilliam earned second in her weight class with lifts of 330-, 150- and 300 pounds for total weight of 780 pounds.

Rhema Pitts placed third in her class with lifts of 270-, 135- and 260-pounds for a total of 665 pounds.

The Troup powerlifting teams will participate next on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Bullard High School.

Tennis

Bullard

The Bullard Panthers participated in a 10-team tournament when they attended the Fair Oaks Invitational Friday, Jan. 18. The team placed second overall with several team members earning awards.

Dylan Sloan and Clark Gunn each placed first in the singles division, Boys A and Boys B respectively. Also in Boys B Singles, Cayden Dodd placed second and Colton Berryhill finished third.

In Boys A Doubles, the team of Aaron Landgraf and Kaison Cummings placed third. In mixed doubles, Houston Hodges and Alex Beedlove also completed the tournament in third place.

Abby Wills took home first place honors in the Girls A Singles.

In the Girls C Singles, Chelsea Davis earned a first place finish and Aubrey Brandon took first place consolation.

The team of Kallie Hardin and Caroline Calhoon finished third in the Girls A Doubles.

The next meet for the Panther tennis team will be the Hallsville Tournament Friday, Jan. 25.
