Two Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies recently received commendations from CCSO Sgt. Spencer Chambless for saving a man’s life.

Deputies Houston Munsinger and Keith Jones were recognized on Nov. 28 for “their quick response in helping save the life of a motorist who had experienced a heart attack and was unresponsive,” according to Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell.

Official reports state on Nov. 3, the deputies were flagged down by a woman who advised that her husband, Daniel Huerta, had a heart attack and was unresponsive. Deputies Jones and Munsinger -- along with James Thompson, a Texas Department of Criminal Justice officer -- took immediate action and performed lifesaving procedures on Huerta, who was able to regain his breathing and heartbeat.

“Deputies Jones and Munsinger’s professionalism, enthusiasm and quick actions in all probability saved Mr. Huerta’s life,” Sheriff Campbell said in a release provided to the Cherokeean Herald. “I would like to personally take this opportunity to thank Deputy Jones and Deputy Munsinger for their actions in saving a man’s life.

“It is not often that I receive compliments thanking our deputies for their performance. In my opinion, this dedication to service and the extra effort are a shining example of the type of employees that are a part of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.”
