Rebecca Rose Sparkman

December 14, 2018

Rebecca Rose Sparkman was born in Wells, Texas on October 14, 1930 and departed this world on December 9, 2018. She was the daughter of W.E. and Edna Hicks and was raised in a family of eight children. God must have planned her childhood to season her for the husband, four boys, ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren she would enjoy. He knew she needed a heart for adventure and plenty of bedtime stories to tell. She loved one man, J.W. Sparkman, her entire adult life and together they shared 65 years of marriage. Her greatest blessing was her family and she dearly loved taking care of them and creating special memories. Whenever she had the slightest inkling her family needed her, she loaded up the car and here she came, usually with a cooler full of food and a container full of cookies. Granny's house was always full of love and wonder, the coke floats flowed freely, a tiny magical man left presents under pillows for grandchildren who slept at night, an all-year bunny left eggs saying hi by the porch, and a home cooked meal of all your favorite foods was waiting day or night.

She was the hardest of workers and never shirked from a task, she'd climb under the house or up on the roof if something needed fixed. In her lifetime, she worked her family's farm, helped in the market, kept accounting books, helped place water wells, chased four rambunctious boys, threw newspapers before sunrise, ran a convenience store and managed apartments. She played as hard as she worked and delighted in snow skiing, tubing, hiking and swimming at Albert Pike, and creating all kinds of fun activities and adventures to amuse her grandchildren. She loved reading, traveling, playing cards, quilting and most of all, spoiling her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her greatest accomplishment was the lifetime of memories and love she shared with her family and friends. Those who loved her were better for having her in their lives.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, J.W. Sparkman, her sisters: Carrie Hamilton, Odessa Cates and Jerry Brooks, and brothers: Ferril Hicks and Johnny Hicks and their spouses. She is survived by her treasured sisters, Iola Presnall and Mildred Hopper and her dear sons and daughters-in-law: Emmitt and Lisa, Kelly and Kim, Paul, and Chad and Angie Sparkman. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Emily (Josh) Smith, Heather (Bart) Springer, Brandy Sparkman, Tye (Julie) Sparkman, P.J. Sparkman, Julie Sparkman, Orrin (Sage) Sparkman, Hunter Sparkman, Jake Sparkman and Ryder Sparkman and their children: Kaden Pickard (Heather), Jaden Rampy (Brandy), Gracie and Kylie Sparkman (Tye), Jeffrey, Ethan and Jackson Smith (Emily) and McRae Sparkman (Hunter). She was also blessed with many nieces and nephews and their families.

She will be interred at Mount Hope Cemetery in Wells, TX. At her request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alto Texas library, your local library of the Mount Hope Cemetery.
