Reports of shots fired at the Jacksonville Independent School District central office put one elementary school campus on lock down Friday morning.

According to official reports, a passenger in a car shot several rounds in the air while passing JISD’s central office at 800 College Ave. Both the office and a neighboring elementary school campus were immediately placed on lockdown, school officials said.

“As West Side Elementary is in close proximity, they, too, were put on lockdown,” JISD Public Information Officer Grace Traylor said late Friday morning. “Jacksonville PD and JISD PD responded and an investigation is under way.”

The lockdowns in both locations were lifted by 11 a.m. Friday.
“All students and staff are safe and responded quickly to established protocols,” Traylor said.
