A memorial service for Ambrose M. “Pop” Coleman, 83, of Jacksonville, is scheduled at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville with the Rev. Doug Wintermute officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville. A private burial for family only will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Ambrose passed away Nov. 30, 2018, in Tyler. Pop was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Fields, La., to Cecil and Ila Edna Graft Coleman.

Pop worked for 26 years as an iron worker through Local 135, Texas City, Texas. After his retirement, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He loved his family, his Heavenly Father and dancing. Through the years, he worked in his trade and traveled with his bride, Gerri. They always found time and a place where they could dance.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife of 54 years, Elsie G. Coleman; sister, Ruth Franks and brothers, Billy W. Coleman and Cecil C. Coleman.

He will be forever be remembered by his wife of 7 years, Frances Coleman of Jacksonville; son, Samuel Coleman of Chandler; daughter, Debra Watts and husband Paul of Troup; granddaughters, Samantha Coleman of Port Arthur, Misty Garrison and husband Steven of Troup; two stepchildren, Susan Jones and husband David of Jacksonville and Kelly Evans and wife Sharon of Elkhart. He is also survived by sister, Sara E. Capello of Arkansas; brothers, Jack R. Coleman and wife Shirline of Arkansas and Phillip M. Coleman and wife Dianne of New Jersey; grandson, A. Melvin Coleman and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.

A lunch will be given for the family at the church at noon.
