Andy Dorman Phillips

It is with great sadness that the family of Andy Dorman Phillips announces his passing on Friday, November 23rd at the age of 79.

Andy will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Susan, his daughter and son-in-law, Brandi and Pete Chilian of Dallas, his grandsons, Cook and Wyatt Chilian of Dallas, his sister and brother-in-law, Sissy and Jeff Austin, Jr. of Jacksonville, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Renee and Mike Todd of Jacksonville. Andy will also be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and cousins: Jeff Austin III of Tyler, Mary Austin of Boulder, Colorado, Leigh and James Mattson of Sugarland, and Emily and Robert Simpson of Jacksonville. He is also survived by his best friends from college, Joe Bob Drake of Davis, Oklahoma and Dr. Mike Cohlmia of Dallas.

Andy was born on August 26th, 1939 in Jacksonville to the late Annie Laurie and W.A. “Windmill” Phillips. After receiving a Bachelor degree from his beloved University of Oklahoma, Andy had a successful career that took him from oil and gas to insurance to banking, where he finished his career with a long stint as a Vice President at Austin Bank. He was a proud East Texan and remained active in many civic endeavors for several years in Jacksonville, a town he dearly loved. He participated in many divisions of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, and he was named Citizen of the Year in 1995. He was a member of the Adopt-A-School Committee for the Jacksonville ISD, the Lions Club where he served as President, the Jacksonville Housing Authority where he served as Chairman, the Boy Scout Council of East Texas, and the East Texas Fair Board. Earlier this year, Andy was a recipient of the Jacksonville Education Foundation “Influential Indian” award. He was an active member of Cherokee Country Club and the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.

A memorial service is scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville. Robert Simpson and Dr. Charles Holmes will officiate with speakers Jeff Austin, Jr., Pete Chilian and Lester Foreman. Andy will be laid to rest at Still Water Memorial Gardens in Jacksonville.

Visitation will begin on Monday, November 26, 2018 and friends are cordially invited to visit with Andy’s family from 5:00 to 7:00 that evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jacksonville Education Foundation or Hospice of East Texas.
