Cherokee County Veterans' Day program to be held Monday
Cherokee County’s annual Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., Monday Nov. 12, at the veterans’ marker on the north side of the courthouse lawn in downtown Rusk.
“We would like the public to attend the ceremony and be a part of our ceremony,” Emerson Griffin, Commander of VFW District 19. “Normally, this ceremony is conducted on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour, but with that day falling on Sunday and during church hours, we decided to move our ceremony to Monday.
Veterans Day this year also commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I. Rusk VFW Post #3406 plans to honor the veterans of Cherokee county who lost their lives defending our principles in the “war that was to end all wars.”
