Rusk High School senior Andrew Gates has taken his first step on the path to baseball greatness.

Gates began playing baseball at the age of three on a Pre T-Ball team and instantly developed a love for the game. That love turned into talent which has earned him a full scholarship to Central Alabama Community College next fall.

“As soon as we knew we were having twin boys, we bought them baseball bats,” said Teresa Gates, Andrew’s mother.

“We are super proud of him. He has put in so many hours and lots of hard work. He is a very dedicated young man.”

Gates, who pitches for the Rusk Eagles, finished last season with a 7-1 district competition record. Throughout his high school career he was also named Freshman of the Year, Sophomore 1st Team All District Pitcher and Pitcher of the Year his junior year.

“We are very thankful for Coach Ellis,” said Mrs. Gates. “He worked with Andrew and he helped make this happen.”
