As some area high school football teams go into district play, other high schools are gearing up for basketball season.

Troup defeats Alba-Golden 55-28

The Troup Tigers took on the Alba-Golden Panthers in Troup on Friday night, securing another win for the season.

Troup continues to prove the Tigers are a team that dominates the field in both rushing and receiving yards, securing a total of 320 rushing yards and 263 receiving yards on Friday night.

Quarterback Weslee Ross ended Friday night with a 75 percent pass completion rate.

Allen Trent led the Tigers with 231 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Bryce Attaway followed closely behind with 102 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Defensive player of the game was awarded to Max Hale for 13 tackles and a forced fumble with the offensive player of game going to Trent Allen and Weslee Ross. Eddie Rojo was special teams player of the game for kicks into the end zone.

The 6-2 Troup Tigers will travel to Winona this Friday to take on the 5-3 Wildcats.

Bullard has bye week

The Bullard Panthers had a bye week this past week and will take on the Brownsboro Bears this Friday at home.

Both teams go into this week’s game with two wins under their belts. Brownsboro averages 30.3 points per game with the larger portion of those games scored in the first half.

Bullard averages 26.1 points per game with the majority of their points coming in the second half of the game.

Game play will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Guard beats Mustangs by 19 points

Brook Hill Guard traveled to McKinney Friday night to take on the McKinney Christian Academy Mustangs on Friday, securing a 39-20 win.

The 6-2 Guard will travel across town this week to go up against the 4-4 Bishop Gorman Crusaders.

Although Brook Hill has secured more wins than Bishop Gorman, statistically wise, this game is shaping up to be a close one.

The Crusaders average 33.4 points per game whereas the Guard averages 32.6 points. Both teams average roughly the same amount of points per quarter as well.

Game play will begin at 7:30 p.m.

New Summerfield recaps 2017-18 season

“I’m excited about the future of our program,” said head basketball coach David Sanders. “This group has the potential to be very successful in the long run and will get thrown into the fire as young high school players with such a large and impactful senior group this year.”

Last year the A team ended the season with a 6-6 record and a fourth place finish out of 13 teams at the Small School All Zone Tournament held in Wells. During the tournament, the team defeated Leggett 64-8 and Martinsville 34-24. Unfortunately they were defeated by Douglass with a score of 20-34 and Big Sandy at 27-36.

Players on the A team were eight graders Danny Lopez, Karson Andrade, Marco Leon, Ary Hernandez, Juan Arredondo, Aron Uribe, Chris Leon, and Tony Uribe and seventh graders Kevin Taylor and Jay Johnson.

Team B had a 3-2 record last year. Players on the B team were eight graders Luis Valenzuela, Chris Mendoza, Daniel Nunez, Daniel Suarez, and Matthew Perez and seventh graders Bryan Zavala, Daxx Lambert, Angel Jimenez, Brian Vargas, Brandon Guerrero, Bryan Torres, Hector Vargas, Denny Medellin, Carlos Munguia, and Adrian Lara.

Coaches for the team are David Sanders and Seth Gibson.
