Glenn Truman Crews

A funeral service for Retired Lt. Col. Glenn Truman Crews, age 89, of Dialville, is scheduled at 2 o’clock in the afternoon Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville. Rev. Paul Gates and Chaplain Eddy Secrest will officiate. Mr. Crews will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery in Oakland.

Truman passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 in his home.

He was born December 19, 1928 in Dialville to the late Atlee and Annie Mae (Jones) Crews.

Mr. Crews is a retired Lieutenant colonel pilot with the U.S. Air Force. He served in Korea and Vietnam and accrued over 14,000 flying hours. He graduated from Lon Morris College and Sam Houston University where he played basketball. He had a passion for his family, fishing and hunting. He was known for his making his fishing “stink” bait and loved handing peanut brittle to his friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Edna Lucille Crews, and a son, David Lynn Crews.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Dale Crews and wife Mary of Rusk; daughters, Aleta Ann Gates and husband Kenneth of Rusk, Dana Heath and husband James of College Station, Lynette Burtch and husband Russell of Humble. He is also survived by grandchildren: Casey, Angie, Ronny, Chris, Michael, Dusty, Ericka, Douglas; great-grandchildren: Bailee, Lauren, Kinsey, Jordan, Brett, Andrew, Austin, Landon, Lilly, Ashlyn Jean “A.J.”, Heather, Hannah, Noah and Garrett; and great-great grandchildren: Libby, Emori, Ryder and Kase.

Pallbearers will be Chris Crews, Michael Crews, Ronny Gates, Casey Gates, Dusty Arrington and Russell Burtch. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Butler and Bill Permenter.

Visitation will begin on Monday, October 22, 2018 and friends are cordially invited to visit with Truman’s family from 5 to 7 o’clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
