Autumn is officially here, and the Alto Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization is celebrating with a fall festival and health fair to support the district’s students’ health and learning.

The Fall Festival and Health Fair will be held from 5:30-7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the Alto Elementary School parking lot, right next to the football field.

“Alto Elementary PTO has set up this Fall Festival to raise money for our students in the classroom,” AISD Nurse Kimberly Holmes, RN, said. “Each grade level will have a booth with exciting activities to raise money. We will have face painting, activities and games for all!”

Tickets are $1 each and will be available upon entry.

All booths and activities will accept tickets only as a form of payment. Concessions will also be available.

“The AES staff encourages and invites parental and community involvement on our campus.,” AES Principal Candis Mabry said in a statement on the campus’s website. “Working together we can build a foundation of life-long learners.”

The Alto Police and Fire departments will be on hand to share information on fire safety, car seat safety, texting and driving information and will feature a wrecked car to show real life consequences of distracted driving. Other attractions include a photo booth, provided by Miss Mollie’s Diner; sports physicals and vaccinations provided by Dawn Barnes with Aurora Concepts; and a hay ride presented by Alto FFA.

Other participants include Cherokee County Judge Chris Davis; Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Tony Johnson; AISD Medical Director Jami Hicks, APN, with Children's Clinic of Lufkin; Dean Outdoor Education; Alto High School's ACC Phlebotomy students; the Cherokee County Health Department; and WIC Office representatives.

Flu vaccines for AISD students will also be available Wednesday, Oct. 24.
