The Rusk Eagles traveled to Henderson Friday night to take on the Lions with hopes of securing their first win of the season. Unfortunately those hopes were dashed as the Lions came out strong in the first quarter and maintained a lead throughout the entire game, finishing with a 30 point lead over Rusk.

Henderson scored the first touchdown of the first quarter with just 7:10 left on the game clock, which only seemed to fuel their determination. The Lions found their way to the end zone for a second time in less than two minutes, followed by a successful point after and brought the score up to 14-0.

A fumble by Rusk on their 15 yard line was recovered by Henderson allowing the Lions to kick a successful field goal, earning them two additional points, with just 3:27 left in the quarter.

The Lions took control of the field early in the second quarter, scoring their third touchdown of the night with 11 minutes left.

Despite a nice pass and long run by Rusk Eagle BJ Johnson, the Eagles were unable to get the ball downfield to reach the red zone or field goal range and the ball was turned over to Henderson on downs.
With a little over five minutes left in the first half, the Lions completed a 68 yard rushing touchdown; however, the Eagles were successful in blocking the PAT.

Henderson found their way to the end zone for a fourth time with just 59 seconds left in the second quarter, making the score 36-0 going into halftime.

A Lions touchdown was recalled at the 9:10 mark of the third quarter following a holding call against Henderson.

Rusk Eagle Semaj Johnson put Rusk on the scoreboard with just six minutes left in the third quarter with a successful touchdown run. An attempted two point conversion by the Eagles was unsuccessful, bringing the score to 36-6.

The Eagles seemed to have found their stride as Tyrell Morrison scored a second touchdown for Rusk. The Eagles again missed the two point conversion.

With less than two minutes left in the third quarter, flags went flying on the field as a fight broke out between the teams. A Henderson player was found to have thrown the first punch and resulted in Henderson receiving an unsportsmanlike penalty.

In the top of the fourth quarter, an Eagles punt following 4th and 10 was blocked by Henderson, allowing the Lions to get a safety and two additional points.

A Henderson field goal with just four minutes left in the third quarter would be the last scoring play either team would have the remainder of the game, ending the night with a final score of 42-12 in favor of the Lions.

The 0-5 Eagles will take on the 3-2 Pittsburg Pirates during a home game on Friday, Oct. 5.
