The city of Rusk is planning a city wide clean up on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The clean up is restricted only to residents that reside inside the city limits or reside outside the city limits but receive city water service.

City workers will monitor dumpsites, which are located at the City Barn on Hwy 69 South and at Conley Park on Reeder Street.

“The city is very happy to sponsor these,” City Manager Jim Dunaway said. “This is the public’s opportunity to do that fall clean-up they’ve been trying to get around to, and we urge all Rusk residents and city water customers to take advantage of this day – get rid of those larger items that just aren’t going to get pick-up curb-side.”

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has strict regulations and guidelines that the city is required to follow to ensure the safety of staff and the surrounding community.

Items that cannot be accepted are liquids of any kind, whole tires (must be split or quartered), oil or oil filters, refrigerators, A/C units or any appliance containing CFC’s (Freon), lead acid batteries, hazardous waste, chemicals or pesticides, paint or paint buckets (only if paint is completely dried and fee of liquid), medical waste of any kind or dead animals.

Items that can be accepted are brush and yard waste, bulky items, household items, furniture, outdoor grills, dishwashers, appliances that do not use Freon, paper or cardboard items, lawn mowers, construction debris, wood and metal items, mattress sets or water heaters.

The accepted items are mentioned as a guideline and not inclusive, you may throw away anything as long as it is not one of the above listed non-acceptable items and is manageable by two people when loading the container.
