RHSAA serving up tasty tradition Annual chili supper set for Homecoming Friday

The Rusk High School Alumni Association (RHSAA) is making it ‘chili’ for the Eagles’ homecoming – but not in a meteorological way.

The RHSAA will be serving up its annual homecoming chili supper from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21, at the Rusk High School Cafeteria, 495 Eagle Dr., prior to kick off of the 2018 RHS homecoming football game against Spring Hill.

Dinner is $7 a person and includes chili with all the trimmings, beverage and dessert.

“We always have a great time and the chili is always superb,” RHSAA President Judy Fay Garner said. “Wewelcome everyone to come out, get a wonderful dinner and show their support to the Rusk Eagles.”

The Association will hold its biennial meeting and a meet and greet event at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, in the commons of Rusk High School.

“We always have a good turnout for the chili supper, and we’re hoping this Homecoming won’t be an exception,” said Don Jones, one of the founding members of the Association.

“The proceeds from the supper go to covering the Association’s annual expenses, and everyone is invited to attend our meeting.”

After sending its annual membership and donation mailings in August, Jones reported, the Association has added 13 new members and received more than $1,000 each in memorial donations and miscellaneous donations.

“We appreciate all the support from our members and invite anyone who’d like to, to join or support our Rusk High School alumni,” Jones said.

RHSAA was founded February 2002. Members consist of former Rusk High School students.

The Association memorializes former students and teachers who have passed.

The Association is a 501c3 non-profit corporation and all donations are tax deductible.

All funds collected by the group are used to benefit past, present and future RHS students.

According to the RHSAA by-laws, “the purpose of the RHSAA is to encourage fellowship of the ex-students and to promote the general welfare of the school, including but not limited to, the awarding of scholarships to qualified applicants who will use such funds to further their education at any accredited college, university or technical school of their choice.”

The Association gave 16 $1,000 scholarships to students graduating in the class of 2018.

Life memberships for ex-students are $100. Associate life memberships for spouses, friends and family of ex-students are $100. Memorials in honor of RHS alumni may also be made.
