CCSO advises citizens of phone scam

September 12, 2018

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has received reports of fraudulent (scam) phone calls from person(s) identifying themselves as deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. The caller tells the citizen that they have outstanding warrants and if they send money that they will not be arrested.

The CCSO does not contact people and request money. The CCSO does not have automated phone lines and all calls will be answered by SO staff. So, if you receive an automated response when calling the SO, it should be considered suspicious. The only number the SO would leave as a call back will be 903-683-2271. If anyone receives a solicitation from anyone purporting to be from the CCSO please report the incident to the CCSO at 903-683-2271.
