At the movies...The Spy Who Dumped Me brings home 3 potatoes and light laughs

August 28, 2018

Spud Nut,

The Spy Who dumped Me (R, 115 minutes) gives you a good time at the movie, and what else can you want for the ticket price.

Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon are best friends living in Los Angeles. Kinus had a fellow dump her, but then he shows up suddenly and the action beings. Bad guys had followed him from Lithuania, and try to kill him in the girls’ apartment.

After he is shot, he tells Kunis to take his second place sports trophy to Vienna and deliver it to someone at 11 a.m. the next day in a certain cafe.

The girls take off to Europe where they get caught up in a major international espionage caper that carries them from Vienna to, Berlin, Paris, and Prague.
British agents join the fray and it becomes hard to tell who can be trusted.

The girls learn they only have each other, and begin to cope very well considering that they don’t really know what they are doing.

So amidst their madcap adventures, the actresses give us plenty of laughs. By the way, Gillian Anderson plays a British MI-6 handler, and if you didn’t know that she was in the cast then you might not recognize her from when she used to play in the X-Files on TV.

Even though this film is light entertainment, it rates a three potato rating for being what it is.
