Notes from the Fox Den

by Josie Fox

Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of the Fox Den!

As we go into the final week of June we also head straight into my birthday. On June 28, 42 years ago, I entered this world in a flurry of excitement. It was not an easy birth for my mother making me the only one out of her five children that arrived via cesarean. I was also the only girl, and quite a bit younger than the rest with the oldest of my four brothers being a senior in high school and the youngest of the group about to enter fourth grade. Needless to say, I was a very spoiled child...and if I am being honest here, I am also a very spoiled adult *cough, cough..Mr Fox*

My dad named me after his older sister, Josie Earline, who passed away almost 15 years before I was born, making me the third generation of Josies in my family (the first was my grandmother, Josie Thelma).

Along with the exciting event of my birth, here are a few interesting tidbits of history and trivial knowledge about June 28:

~It is the 179th day of the year (180th if it is a leap year).

~Those born on this day fall under the western zodiac sign of Cancer. Cancers’ element is water and they are called moon child as they are ruled by the moon.

~In the Chinese zodiac, those born in 1976 are considered fire dragons and those individuals are good at seizing opportunities.

~In the Celtic zodiac, June 28 babies fall under the symbol of the Wren. Wrens are known to be caretakers, charming and muses.

~A few actors/entertainers who share my birthday are John Cusack, Mel Brooks, Kathy Bates, Rob Dyrdek, Kellie Pickler and John Elway.

~On June 28, 1838 Queen Victoria celebrated her coronation and moved into Buckingham Palace.

~In 1902 the U.S. Congress passed the Spooner Act on June 28. This authorized President Theodore Roosevelt to acquire rights from Colombia for the Panama Canal.

~The Treaty of Versailles, ending WWI and establishing the League of Nations was signed June 28, 1919.

~In 1952 the Miss Universe Pageant was held on June 28.

~The famous ear biting boxing match between Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson took place on June 28, 1997.

~There will be a lunar eclipse on June 28, 2094; however, I don’t think I will be around to see that one unless I manage to live to see the ripe age of 118.

Until next week, may your days be filled with love and laughter.
