Dewey A. “Tony” Simms

A memorial service for Dewey A. “Tony” Simms, 66, of Alto,TX will be held Saturday May 19th at 2 p.m. at the A. Frank Smith UMC in Alto. There is no visitation scheduled. Mr. Simms died peacefully in his home Thursday morning.

He was born October 18, 1951 in Shongaloo, La. to Lucious Anthony “L.A.” and Idelle Williams Simms. He is preceded in death by his father, his daughter Sable Simms Rider and sister Sherry Smith.

Tony grew up in Shongaloo and after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1976 he received his bachelors of science degree from Louisiana Tech University.

Tony was a member of A. Frank Smith UMC in Alto where he and his wife Lindy had served as youth ministers for many years and took several successful mission trips.

He had a successful career in horticulture which included the management of the Indian Mound Nursery in Alto and in his later years he was the proprietor of a computer repair business.

He is survived by his wife Lindy Simms of Alto; son Kevan Simms of Mandeville, La; daughter and son-in-law Callie and Jeremy George of Pineville, La; step-sons and daughters-in-law Aaron and Leslie Lankford of Rusk and Corry Lankford and fiancé Adriana of Lufkin; sisters and brother-in-law Melba and Sam Hill of Arkadelphia, Ark. and SuEllen Kirk of Haynesville, La.; grandchildren Dani Simms, Cooper Simms, Cohen Hardy, Lucas Hardy, Lila George, Andy Proffer, Courtney Lankford, and Tallulah Lankford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be lovingly missed and remembered.
