Former Alto city marshal Joe Moore also served as deputy sheriff, worked in Huntsville as part of the state prison system and owned the Moore Hotel, which was located on San Antonio St. He was also an accomplished musician who played the violin and cello. He died in 1952 at the age of 90, considered to be “the last of the old time lawmen” in Alto.
