The model yacht “Garwood,” built by Rudolph Mangels of Wesermuende, Germany, while he was a prisoner of war held at Camp Fannin during WWII. Mangels designed the model from memories of ships he had seen and built it from scrap materials on hand at the camp. The model is currently on loan to UT Health Northeast, which is located on the site that was previously Camp Fannin.
