Members of Rusk/Alto Girl Scout Troop 139 held a food drive with friends family to collect items for The Good Samaritan's food bank. The food drive was part of the Scouts' food and cooking badge requirements but it was also a reminder that food banks especially need supplies during the summer and early fall when donations traditionally fall off. Troop 139 also sent Girl Scout cookies that were paid for by community donations collected during the annual cookie program. The Scouts are hoping that their donations will inspire others to assist the good works at the Good Samaritan. Junior Scouts Nikki Rigsby and Moira Debbs (far left and right), with Cadette Scouts Elizabeth Heidel and Rebekah Heidel (center), deliver non-perishable goods - including Girl Scout cookies - to grateful Good Samaritan volunteers.
