Rusk senior John David Beard (back, third from right) was a member of the Centex 16U baseball team that won the Texas Showcase League 17U World Series in Fort Worth at the beginning of August. Players represented Rusk, Harker Heights, Lorena, Gatesville, Burnet, Robinson, Bruceville-Eddy, Midway, Corsicana, Navasota, Killeen and South Grand Prairie. Team members were Beard, Divante Goodsby, Cody Lovejoy, Thomas Weber, Grant Martin, Joseph Olson, Greg Bostick, Matthew Kent, Hunter Melton, Emil Litterer, Justin Walton, Derrick Hadley, Kyler Payne, Gregory Greene, Jacoby Middleton, Justin Dingman and bat boy Nolan Payne. The team was coached by Dub Kilgo, Leo Olson and Teddy Hoffman.
