Petitions with approximately 1,200 signatures are delivered to Connie Quine, election clerk at the Cherokee County Tax Office, by Mike McEwen, left, and Chairman George Douglas of the Progress Jacksonville Committee. Progress Jacksonville is asking that county commissioners call an election for the sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption and the sale of mixed drinks in local restaurants. A total of 1,010 signatures are needed on each petition. After Ms. Quine certifies the petition signatures, commissioners will call the liquor election in Jacksonville for May 8.
