Two different groups of students from Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) provided parties in March for Rusk State Hospital patients. SFA nursing students, top photo, provided birthday parties March 9 for two of the hospital's units. On March 23, this same group of students will be providing a birthday party for the patients on the other hospital's units. The students provide cupcakes and snacks for the patients and presents for those patients having birthdays. The students also play card games with the patients. The SFA Psychology Club, bottom photo, hosted a spring party for patients on March 5. Besides providing snacks for the patients, the students played bingo, had a spoon race and a dance contest. Winners were given prizes. The patients enjoy participating in these activities with the students. The Psychology Club plans to host a party each month of this semester. Anyone interested in hosting parties, providing entertainment, or volunteering at the hospital may contact the Rusk State Hospital Community Relations Office at (903) 683-7327.
