Mrs. Alvin Shattuck, seated, recently added to the collection of historical items in the Heritage Center of Cherokee County Museum at Rusk. From the estate of her late brother-in-law, Wiley B. Shattuck, she presented the flag used at his funeral to recognize his service as a pilot in World War II. She also donated several group photos of Rusk High School students from the late 1930s. Standing from left are Mary Gregg, Kevin Stingley, museum director and incoming president of the museum Rachel Loden. Mr. Shattuck returned from military service and worked for the Gregg Insurance Agency until retirement. He was an avid photographer and worked from his dark room at home. It was his camera that caught the pictures seen worldwide during the infamous riot at Rusk State Hospital in April, 1955.
